WHY WE CELEBRATE RACIAL HARMONY DAY?
Racial Harmony Day is celebrated annually on 21 July. The event is to commemorate the 1964 Racial Riots, which took place on 21 July 1964. Because of this 4 people were killed and 178 injured only on the first day of the riot.
Another example is on May 5, 1854,riots between the Hokkien-Teochew began. This lasted for 10-12 days, leaving 400 dead and 300 home destroyed.

These riots reminds Singaporeans to be united and we have to pledge in the coming years to keep our nation safe and sound.
Racial Harmony Day is commemorated to mark the race riots, and also to serve as a day for reflection and a reminder of the need for racial harmony in multi-racial Singapore, and how the exploitation of communal feelings can threaten the political stability of Singapore.
